Arrow eAS - A clever tool for managing your activity
statements
Since the introduction of the GST,
over 3.3 million people in Australia
prepare either a quarterly or monthly activity
statement... Now that's
a lot of paperwork, but it doesn't have to be. |
Arrow has just made it easier for you to meet your tax
obligations and lodge your business
activity statements electronically with the ATO.
An Australian first, Arrow's electronic activity statement (eAS)
application is like no other.
It enables your business to electronically lodge your activity
statements directly from Arrow
Financials, in just a few minutes.
ARROW eAS - HOW IT WORKS...
Using the most innovative technology framework Microsoft
.Net and deploying web services, your business can
electronically retrieve, validate and submit activity statements
online and in real time directly from your Arrow Financials user
interface. You can navigate through your activity statement by
simply clicking Next or Previous, meaning the entire process
takes only minutes, with data populated directly from your Arrow
Financials (optional). Security is also to the highest level,
with the web services navigating through multiple security
layers within the ATO utilising digital certificates via the CSI
(Common Signing Interface).
The activity statement transactions are captured within one
of the 9 modules Arrow Financials has in use, normal transaction
entry is performed in these modules and relative to data setup,
tax values are recorded transaction by transaction. These
transactions are pulled together for activity statement
reporting purposes using the Arrow Financials BAS report writer,
this program provides a method where each of the boxes or
obligations required to be reported on, can be configured to
pull information out of the appropriate Arrow Financials module.
Arrow eAS can be launched from within Arrow Financials and
can optionally read in data produced by the BAS report writer or
alternatively it can be launched for the manual entry of values
for activity statement lodgement. The module is built around
making use of ATO web services to facilitate lodgement.
THE ARROW eAS: PROCESS
- The first of the web
services is called after the company ABN
has been entered. This information along with a
selected range of dates and an authentication token
(created using the CSI and the ATO digital
certificates) are packaged together in a SOAP
envelope and sent to the ATO. After authenticating
you as the user, the ATO provides a list of all
activity statements - including those already lodged
and those waiting to be lodged.
- A second web service
is called after a specific activity statement has
been selected for processing. Client details will be
shown and the ATO will pre-populate fields with
specific data (i.e. instalment values). Arrow eAS
will only show the fields that need to be completed
based on your business' reporting obligations.
- When the third web
service is called, it validates your
activity statement. An authentication token is sent
along with the data submitted to the ATO. The ATO
applies its validation rules across the data and if
all information is complete and accurate, a message
is sent back to Arrow eAS enabling you to proceed.
- The final web service
involves the submission of the activity statement,
sending the populated and validated data to the ATO
for submission along with the non-repudiation
security token in a SOAP envelope. The ATO then
returns a receipt number to you confirming lodgement.
IT'S ABOUT STREAMLINING YOUR
PROCESSES & SAVING TIME
- Easier to comply with ATO obligations
- More personalised approach
- Immediate access to your records
- Historic information readily available
- Certainty that what has been lodged passes the
ATO validation
- Multiple lodgement capability for multiple
companies

ARROW eAS: DISCOVER THE BENEFITS |
- INNOVATION:
Arrow eAS is written in the Microsoft .NET Framework and
has been recognised as a Microsoft .Net connected
product. ARROW eAS was also selected as a finalist
in The Australian Information Industry Association's (AIIA)
2005 Awards.
- EFFICIENCY:
Arrow eAS enables businesses to effectively manage all
aspects of your activity statement reporting to the ATO
including reviewing previously submitted statements and
keeping track of payment obligations. Processing times
are also expedited.
- USABILITY: Based
on wizard navigation the eAS interface is seamless and
user friendly, launching directly from Arrow Financials.
You will not be intimidated by being in an ATO branded
site - yet the data is transmitted in real-time and
populated automatically, directly from Arrow Financials.
- ACCURACY: Data
accuracy is enhanced with Arrow eAS. Information does
not need to be retrieved from hardcopies, and for your
business you'll have a reliable electronic transaction
trail for all of your activity statement reporting to
the ATO.
- HIGH LEVEL SECURITY:
High levels of security (PKI) are used for
authentication with the ATO. The ATO require digital
certificate authentication for all electronic
transactions (a standard that has Defence Directorate
security approval).
THE SMARTS BEHIND MICROSOFT
.NET TECHNOLOGY
A fundamental capability of the Microsoft Platform,
.NET is the technology that gives you access to the
information you require, whenever and wherever you need
it. Microsoft .NET is the Microsoft web strategy that
allows data to be shared across different hardware
platforms and operating systems. Regardless of the
programming, .NET allows data to interoperate -
connecting people, information, systems and devices.
Made up of a set of Microsoft software technologies,
.NET has the ability to quickly build, deploy, manage,
and use connected, security-enhanced solutions with Web
services, such as those used to build Arrow eAS. The
results mean that the software is tightly integrated and
the benefit lies in streamlining what were previously
tedious workflows.
