ARROW FINANCIALS - INFORMATION GUIDE & RELEASE NOTES FOR VERSION
5.10
Introduction
Welcome to Arrow Financials Version 5.10.
Version 5.10 has been distributed to accommodate support for
Microsoft SQL Server
2005 across Arrow Financials, ArrowLink, ArrowShop, and ArrowSAM.
In addition
updates and enhancements that have been added since the release
of version 5.00 are
found in each installation including a number of additional
Excel reports outputs,
Also on the Arrow Version 5.10 CD you will find the latest
version of our e-Commerce
product range; ArrowShop 2.90, ArrowSAM 1.60, and Visual
ArrowLink 1.50. These
version numbers have been updated to note the change of SQL
connectivity kit.
The Arrow version 5.10 CD also contains the Arrow eAS version
1.20 that
accommodates the new Fuel Tax Credits specifications and an
additional 6 activity
statements that will now be applicable to sites.
Sites upgrading from any previous version of Arrow Financials
are required to follow the
upgrade procedures outlined in this document to upgrade all
sites. These upgrades
WILL include running a workstation setup on each workstation to
set a workstation up
with the Excel output report selection in the event this was not
performed during the
version 5.00 upgrade.
A new registration number IS NOT required for sites wishing to
upgrade to
Version 5.10 from version 5.00 however is required if a site is
upgrading from
version 4.90 or prior. In addition all SQL installation programs
will now require an
installation code. This code can be obtained via the Knowledge
Centre and the
User Details screen. It is important to note, Visual Arrow 5.10
upgrades are only
available to current ESP members.
The facility to electronically submit upgrade requests is
available from the within the
Knowledge Centre section of the Partner Intelligence Centre on
the Arrow Research
Corporation web site.

Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Support
Arrow Financials, ArrowSAM, ArrowShop and ArrowLink now all
support
Microsoft SQL Server 2000 (SP4)
Microsoft SQL Server 2005 (SP1) (NEW)
Microsoft SQL Express edition (SP1) (NEW)
All SQL version installation programs will now require a 12
digit SQL installation code. The
code for all existing Arrow SQL sites can be obtained in the
User Details section of the
Knowledge Base. This installation code is critical to the
operation of the installation program
and the files it installs. Please ensure that the correct
installation code is used for each
particular site to ensure that the correct components are
installed. An example of this
window is shown below. Failure to enter the correct code will
not allow for the installation to
continue.
New SQL sites
All new SQL cross-grades or new sales will be provided with a
version of the connectivity kit
that is supported under SQL server 2000 and SQL Server 2005, and
SQL Express. All sites
still require the SQL installation code as detailed above to
unlock the SQL installation
programs.
Existing ArrowSQL Sites
In the instance an existing ArrowSQL wishes to upgrade their SQL
Server to SQL Server
version 2005 they must first obtain an updated Data Access
Connectivity Kit Registration
and an updated SQL installation code. This must be done by
placing an order on the clients
behalf for a connectivity kit upgrade via the Order centre. All
sites still require the SQL
installation code as detailed above to unlock the SQL
installation programs.
What advantage does Microsoft SQL Express provide ?
With the release of Arrow Financials v5.10, ArrowSQL will be
available with a 2 user price
option (Please see the latest price list for details). This 2
user ArrowSQL price point and the
supporting of Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express, will encourage
smaller Visual Arrow sites
to migrate to the SQL environment.
Microsoft SQL Server Express is a scaled down version of
Microsoft SQL server with
limitations (e.g. 1 CPU, 1 GB RAM). Therefore ArrowSQL sites
implementing Microsoft SQL
Server Express will only be supported up to 5 users and within
these restrictions. Arrow
Research recommends that sites exceeding these bounds purchase
the full Microsoft SQL
Server 2005.

ATO Fuel Tax Credit changes
The Australian Tax Office has released changes to the Fuel
Credits scheme that now means
fuel tax credits must be detailed on Business activity
statements. These credits will be
reported in box 7C on 6 new activity statement types.
As a result Arrow eAS has been updated to cater for the
additional BAS statements and the
Arrow Financials BAS report writer now contains the ability to
enter boxes 7C and 7D in
order to pass values to Arrow eAS.
Existing Arrow eAS sites are only required to upgrade to version
1.20 of Arrow eAS (found
on the 5.10 CD) in the case that the business has registered to
be part of the ATO Fuel Tax
Excise Credit scheme. (FTC). In the instance a site does
register for FTC and does not
upgrade Arrow eAS they will be alerted to the fact they need to
upgrade by the ATO when
they first attempt to lodge a BAS from Monday 24th July 2006.
As the record keeping specifications of the FTC scheme have just
past through the senate
the automatic generation of Fuel tax credits will not be part of
the initial Arrow Financials
5.10 release. However enhancements will be made shortly to cater
for the automatic
calculation and collection of these values on activity
statements.
The version 5.10 CD contains the Arrow eAS installation program
and supporting
documentation to help in the installation process. The Arrow
online manual also installed
during the version 5.10 install, contains sections on the Arrow
eAS module and how it can be
used.
ArrowSQL Consultant Toolkit
An ArrowSQL Consultant toolkit has been provided on the version
5.10 release that collates
all the ArrowSQL documentation and FAQ's that were previously
provided. The new manual
also contains additional screen shots and procedures that will
be incorporated for those sites
moving to SQL Server 2005. The manual will be able to be
installed by the Arrow SQL
installation programs.
Knowledge Base operation
As there are no registration changes in version 5.10, version
5.00 programs that are
currently being supplied on the knowledge base will be replaced
with version 5.10 programs.
This means that version 5.10 programs can be loaded on version
5.00 programs with no
other steps for upgrade.
Arrow Research will continue to supply version 5.10 programs in
daily and fortnightly
updates along with version 4.90 programs being made available in
fortnightly updates.
However NO version 4.90 programs will be supplied on the
Knowledge Base after
September 30th 2006.

Arrow Financials Version 5.10 - Excel Report Output
The major enhancement to Arrow Financials version 5.00 was the
introduction of the
Microsoft Excel report output selection in Arrow Financials. The
Microsoft Excel output will
allow for specific reports to be output to Microsoft Excel. This
output can be formatted by
each Arrow user and will include formula fields for column and
row totals where applicable.
How does the option work ?
The Arrow Financials and workstation installation programs for
version 5.10 will register a
DLL locally that makes it possible for Microsoft Excel output.
If Arrow Financials detects that
the DLL has been registered on a workstation/server and that
workstation/server also has
Microsoft Excel installed, an Excel button will be provided to
the user on specific reports.
When Arrow Financials version 5.10 is first launched it will
create an additional 3 tables in
the Arrow database. These tables are populated with records from
two text files
RPTMAST.TXT and RPTREPT.TXT that are placed in the arr@data
folder by the version
5.10 installation program. These tables then facilitate the
Excel reporting option and set
which reports are to be available in the system. Details of the
additional tables can be found
in the Filelist.cfg changes under version 5.10 section of this
document.
Which reports have the Excel output option ?
Currently the following reports are those that are available to
be output to Microsoft Excel
with the version 5.10 release.

Can a default format be set for the Excel spreadsheets ?
The format (font, style, colour) of the Arrow Excel reports can
all be set from the Main menu
in Arrow Financials in the “Setup-Excel” parameters. These
settings, like the VIEW/LASER
settings are stored in the HKEY_CURRENT_USER section of a
workstation/servers registry.
This means that all users, including those in a Terminal Server/
Citrix environment, are able
to store their own output options defaults.
How are the additional reports loaded on an existing site ?
The additional Excel reports that have been added since version
5.00 will not become
available until such time as the Utilities menu is loaded. As
the menu is loaded it checks the
version of the report text file (RPTMAST.TXT) in the arr@data
folder and automatically
uploads the report formats. Therefore an update involves placing
the latest RPTMAST.TXT,
RPTREPT.TXT files into the arr@data folder and launching the
utilities menu. These files
are updated by the version 5.10 installation program.
What, if any, issues may come up via support for these options ?
It is important to note that Arrow Financials version 5.10 will
only allow one Excel window to
be open at anyone time. Therefore users should be aware that
they should save all
spreadsheets after Arrow has launched Microsoft Excel. Arrow
Financials works in this
manner to avoid memory issues as resources can quickly dwindle
should Excel be opened
on multiple occasions.
The process of generating a spreadsheet is slower than the
process of generating a report to
other output options. Reports are output using a print function
which is compiled into the
Visual Dataflex language. Excel spreadsheets are created using a
third party dll which
transfers information to Excel. Every cell in an Excel
spreadsheet is built from multiple
accesses to the driver - the value, the colour, the font, the
justification in the field, the
number of decimals and the number of columns to merge all
require separate accesses.
The interface to Excel has been optimised to be as efficient as
possible, but the many tasks
involved in building a spreadsheet on the fly necessarily make
the process slower.
In addition, the formulas built and included in spreadsheets are
constructed from data held in
tables in memory. These tables are constantly read and updated
when creating a
spreadsheet, this is another process which slows spreadsheet
creation. In some cases a
second 'worksheet' spreadsheet is needed to created the
necessary formulas.

DATABASE & FILELIST.CFG CHANGES UNDER VERSION 5.10
.. There have been no changes made to the filelist.cfg between
version 5.00 and version
5.10. However the addition of Excel output to Arrow Financials
in version 5.00 resulted in
a number of changes to the filelist.cfg. These tables will be
added to the filelist.cfg of any
company accessed that is running version 5.10 when the ARRMENU
is first launched.
This process creates the additional three tables, and adds the
following entries to the
filelist.cfg.
File Number File Name File Description
36 RPTREPT Report Format Fields
37 RPTMAST Report Format Master
38 RPTTRAN Report Format Lines
SUPPORT NOTE
As the tables are first created when running Arrow Financials,
it is suggested Arrow
Financials version 5.10 is first run by a user with
administrative access to the Arr@data
and other company folders. This would include “create table”
rights to the ArrowSQL
database for those SQL sites that will have tables added to the
Microsoft SQL Server
database and INT files created in the Arrow directory paths.
.. All SQL databases for Arrow Financials, ArrowLink, ArrowShop,
ArrowSAM will now be
Microsoft SQL Server 2000 databases. This will mean these
databases cannot be
attached to Microsoft SQL Server 7.

This procedure caters for ArrowSQL 4.75 & 4.80 to ArrowSQL
version 5.10 upgrades. All
procedures related to Arrow DataFlex conversions can be found in
the “Arrow SQL MS SQL
Install.pdf” document found on the ArrowSQL CD.
1.
Take a Microsoft SQL Server backup of all Arrow databases.
2.
If the Microsoft SQL database files (MDF, LDF) being used for
Arrow are located in

Microsoft SQL Server 7
sites will need to detach the database.
3.
Take a complete system backup of all Arrow directories including
all program,
runtime and data file directories.
4.
Delete or rename (for an additional backup) all Arrow
directories. This could be done
by removing the ARROW folder or removing the individual folders
which may consist

name or Microsoft
SQL instance name specified in the installation program is
correct as failure to do so
will cause ArrowSQL to be non-functional.
7.
After the completion of the installation program, enter the
connectivity kit registration
in the “Register SQL Driver” for Arrow Financials. This will
register the connectivity
kit. In the event where the registration number cannot be found
or is unknown this
step can also be done by copying across the registration files
(*.DFR,

the newly
installed arr@vdf\runtime directory.
8.
From the backup in step 4, copy files from the backed up
arr@data directory with the
extension INT, DAT, K, MDF, LDF to the arr@data directory
created by the version
5.10 installation program in step 7. This copy should also
include the filelist.cfg as
this will trigger the creation of the RPT Excel report tables in
the SQL database.
9.
If the site are Multi Company restore all Multi-company sub
directories. This suggests
you would copy all folders found off the arr@data directory in
the backup (except the
BLANKDAT folder) to the newly created arr@data from the version
5.10 installation.
10.
If Microsoft SQL databases were taken offline in step 3, bring
these databases back
online, or re-attach. Any issues doing so would suggest that the
MDF and LDF files
were moved during this procedure and not moved back into the
same directory.
11.
Start Arrow in the usual manner. You will be presented with the
Arrow Registration
Number screen prompting you to enter the new registration
number. Enter the
version 5.10 registration number.
12.
Select each company from the menu and you will be presented with
the Arrow
Registration Number screen prompting you to enter the new
registration number.
Enter the version 5.10 registration number in each company.
13.
Arrow Version 5.10 is now ready for use. Please run the “SYSTEM
AUDITOR” to
ensure the integrity of the data.
14.
Please now make a new system backup and attend to any particular
settings that are
relevant to the site.
15.
The workstation set up MUST be run on all workstations. ALL
local Arrow icons &
folders should be removed before running the workstation
installation.

Arrow Version 5.10 CD Extras
ArrowSQL Extras installation
Throughout 2005 and 2006 Microsoft Analysis Server cube
reporting and Audit Trail triggers
have been demonstrated to business partners to help illustrate
the powerful reporting
options available to sites who move to ArrowSQL. These added
extras provide great
incentive
for Dataflex users to move to ArrowSQL.
Version 5.00 again took this a step further with the release of
the ArrowSQL Extras
installation. The installation automates the setup process of
the sample triggers and also
sees the release of a series of sample Analysis Server cubes and
pivot tables to the
business partner network. The installation program limits the
number of steps required to get
both operational on a sites database or internally for
demonstration purposes.
Full documentation of the installation process can be found in
the Arrow SQL Extras
Installation.PDF document found in the CONFIG folder of the
version 5.10 CD and within
the new ArrowSQL Consultant Toolkit.
NOTE
The samples provided are only for the Microsoft SQL Server and
Microsoft Analysis Server
2000. Due to dramatic changes made to these processes under
Microsoft Analysis Server
2005 these samples will not work for SQL Server and Analysis
Server 2005 systems. An
update to this installation will be provided for SQL Server
2005.
Sales Demonstration Workstation Installation document
The Sales demonstration datasets documentation was released on
the version 4.90 CD. It is
again provided on the version 5.10 CD to business partners as a
starting point to the Arrow
Financials, ArrowSAM, ArrowShop and ArrowLink installations and
is not just used for the
purpose of a Sales demonstration. All installation programs and
checklists for each product
are detailed within this document for ease of installation.
This Arrow Sales Demonstration Datasets installation program
(found in the\Apps\Sales
directory) will allow for the creation of any of the following
three companies:
Standard Demo data - includes Multi-Location, ArrowShop &
ArrowSAM
Extended General Ledger
Single Location
The document contains a Checklist section which outlines the
steps required to install and
configure each of the products in the Arrow Product suite. Each
point references other
materials and help information that may be required when
completing those steps.
It also contains an Installation section which steps through
each of the Arrow installation
programs found on the CD, explaining and making recommendations
on all installation
options.
This document, along with the Online user manual and Document
libraries FAQ documents
will enable Arrow to be installed onsite, or assist in the
installation and setup of
demonstration workstations and support systems.

APPENDIX
Appendix A Visual Arrow Overview
Visual Arrow version 5.10 is written in Visual Dataflex 7.03, a
full 32 bit integrated
database/development tool. Visual Dataflex 7.03 uses the same
database formats and
functionality as prior revisions of Dataflex. It can
interoperate with those revisions of
Dataflex concurrently on the same database files.
Visual Arrow holds all programs for a module as Views in a
single program per module.
Multiple views may be open at any time in a module. Visual Arrow
allows multiple modules
to be opened in a single desktop. Open modules may be accessed
from the Windows task
bar. Each module is a single program with a series of views of
which any number may be
open at any time. All open views may be cascaded, tiled,
minimised or maximised from a
drop down menu.
Visual Arrow Help uses the Windows Help system and new
Electronic Manual so that every
user can have one and they can be kept up to date with all of
the latest product
enhancements and features. AND you can “Carry it with you”.
Visual Arrow also has its' own on-line searchable help for all
programs.
Cut, copy and paste are available. The Visual Arrow desktop may
be operated in full screen
mode. The system date is altered via a password controlled popup
window.
Each key field contains a button, which may be clicked, with a
mouse, to access Dataview.
In the body of entry programs, key fields are identified as
those with two dots after the name
in the column heading. Clicking on the column-heading tab, with
the mouse, will cause
Dataview to be activated.
All maintenance, process and report screens contain an 'Ok' or
'Start' button which may be
clicked to short circuit the screen entry/selection process.
Dataview screens use a clear grid
structure, which helps to improve readability and identification
of the current record. The
same applies to transaction entry and inquiry display screens.
Block text and master file notes are maintained via a text
editor with full block text marking,
cut, copy and paste facilities.
Printer selection for the 'Print' button uses the standard
Windows printer dialog. Report and
process tracking status is shown on progress bars.

5.10
Appendix B Visual DataFlex 7.03 - Workspaces & the Registry
Visual Arrow version 5.10 is written in Visual Dataflex 7.03,
and makes use of Workspaces.
What is a workspace?
A workspace is segment of the registry that stores settings for
Visual Dataflex programs
including settings such as:
Description: A description of the workspace
DataPath: The location of the database files
FileListPath: The location of the filelist.cfg to open
BitmapPath: The location of any multimedia files required by an
application
ProgramPath: The location of the DataFlex programs for the
application
HelpPath: The location of the help file name for the application
Data Access designed the Workspace to allow multiple DataFlex
applications to reside on a
single PC.
What is the registry?
The registry is a database of operating system and application
settings. The Windows
operating system(s) provide an application-programming interface
to read and write the
registry to allow application developers to use the registry to
read/write their own settings
and read information about the operating system environment,
settings and components.
In Windows environments, that have registry security turned on
(optional with Windows
98SE, default with NT/XP), users lacking full access to all
Dataflex registry entries may
experience a “TERMLIST.CFG” Not Found error, which will prevent
them from running
Dataflex applications. This error can occur upon first
installation and again upon the
addition of new users, without the proper registry-access
rights.
In such an environment, you can use Microsoft's registry editor
to grant universal rights to all
users to the VDF key, or alternatively, to a defined group of
users such as users of “Visual
Arrow”.
The Data Access Model
Data Access has designed the workspace to be as flexible as
possible whilst allowing the
distribution and setup of an application to be as simple as
possible.
The registry keys are located in: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Data
Access
Corporation\Visual DataFlex\7
How does this work?
The shortcut for the application has a parameter of Arrow, this
causes the DataFlex runtime
to lookup a key in the registry called:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Data Access Corporation\Visual
DataFlex\7\Arrow
Or if not located
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Data Access Corporation\Visual
DataFlex\7\Arrow
Once this key is located the DataFlex runtime retrieves the
values from the key, it uses these
values to setup the startup environment for the system, for
example:
Workspace -What workspace to use
Vdf -What program to run
ARROW RESEARCH CORPORATION PTY LTD Page 19

Module -What module name to Use
Note: Due to the new registry keys and icon changes detailed
above, it is necessary to run
workstation setups on all workstations after removing the
existing icons on those
workstations not previously running version 4.75 for Visual
Dataflex 7. Please refer to the
Upgrade and Workstation setup sections of this document.
The below is a list of registry keys now created under Visual
Arrow version 5.10.
These may depend upon which features are selected upon
installation of Arrow Financials or
those Shortcuts chosen when running the Workstation setup
program.
These registry keys are used as an example to show what they
would be set to if installing to

•
The Arrow registration file is now valid for seven days.
•
Two additional forms have been added for Stock Receipt and Sale
Labels. Full details on
this can be found further on in this document.
•
In Print Setup, it is now possible to select multiple forms when
setting the printer.
•
The printer name field has been extended from 40 characters to
60 characters.
•
The template path field has been extended from 50 characters to
254 characters.
•
When exiting the Form Editor window after editing a particular
form, that form is now
selected in the Form Editor form selection window.
•

error occurs.
•
In some environments, the Fax Engine did not poll automatically
until it had been
manually cycled. The Fax Engine has been modified to poll
automatically on startup.
•
Under version 2.5 In Print Setup, the Save and Load feature did
not work correctly.
When configuring Print Setup by User, the Print Engine still
displayed the radio button
set to By System when next starting Print Setup. The settings
were stored correctly as
By User, this was a display problem which has been fixed under
Quickforms version 2.6.
•
In Email Setup, if any form other than BOM forms were selected,
clicking the browse
button for Default File for Body Text generated an "Error 9 -
Subscript out of range".
Swapping between companies with a form selected saved the other
company's form
details to the selected company.
•
In some environments, the Fax Engine could not address the modem
unless it was on
COM1. The error generated was "Error 18 - COM port closed".
•
The email engine now returns to the system tray when minimised.
To confirm that the update was successful, launch the print
engines and setup programs -
the version displayed in the title bar should now read "v2.6".
NOTE: As with version 2.5, this version of QuickForms uses the
registration files
created by Visual Arrow. Sites not running Visual Arrow should
remain on
QuickForms 1.9.

Appendix J Extended General Ledger Conversion
Conversion Process to Extended G/L for Version 5.10
You should note that any existing sites upgrading to the
Extended General Ledger require
modified versions of the following standard files that can be
located in the blankdat directory,
GENMAST, CODMAST and CODTRAN
The conversion process should be performed as follows,
-
load down the latest 5.00 programs
-
enter the new registration number
-
enter the Extended General Ledger segment parameters.
In Visual Arrow - Set Up, Modules, General Ledger.
Below is an example of a possible Extended GL Structure.
(Please refer to the Manual for additional information.)
-
ensure that no other G/L parameters are accessed until after
running the account
conversion process
-
write the G/L Master, Codes Master and Codes Transaction files
to ASCII text files

- load down the updated GENMAST, CODMAST and CODTRAN (DAT & K
files)
(These can be found in the "BLANKDAT" directory.)
-read the G/L Master, Codes Master and Codes Transaction files
from ASCII text files
-run the account conversion process
For Visual Arrow Sites: Launch the Consultant's Utility Menu,
Other, Convert G/L codes
to Extended G/L codes.
There are two options in the “Convert Chart of Accounts Screen:
“A” to add defaults - If this option is chosen then Arrow will
add the default branch and
department to the whole of the current Chart of Accounts
Structure.
For example, you can set a default Branch '11' and Department
'22'. Hence your new Chart
of account on conversion will be 11.22.XXXX.XX (depending on the
segment parameters
chosen).
“C” to convert the account structure - If this option is chosen
then Arrow will convert an
existing standard G/L account into a new Extended G/L Account on
an individual basis.
For example, you can choose to move part of the account.sub
account to the branch or
department segments. Hence on the Old account section of the
options you can select
which part of the account.sub account can be in the Branch or
department section. Hence if
you enter _ _ B B. D D (_ being blanks), you are choosing to
move Account character 3 and
4 to the Branch Segment, and the sub accounts to the department
segments. In the Replace

in GL account, you can chose to replace the moved characters.
Hence if you enter _ _ 11.
23, then the conversion process will produce BB.DD.AA11.23.
BB being the 3rd and 4th sections of the old Account number
DD being from the Sub account numbers for the old account
structure
AA being the 1st and 2nd section of the old Account number.
11 being the replaced 3rd and 4th account numbers
23 being the replaced sub account numbers.
This is just an example of how you may use this options, there
are numerous ways
depending on the Account segments setup in the General ledger
module.
* Default Branch and Departments can be created via DataView or
on the fly whilst in the
Convert Chart of Accounts Screen.
