Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2013 Partner Day
In November, the Evolution Business Systems (EBS) team went to Microsoft’s Sydney office for the official partner presentation of Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2013.
There was a good crowd of approximately 50 enthusiastic and engaged Dynamics NAV partners who attended from all over Australia. Mathieu Kalck and Neville Foyn from EBS attended the event and were excited to get their first look and feel of the new version, Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2013.
The purpose of the event was to gather the NAV community together to help partners take advantage of the strong momentum of the new release of NAV 2013 and articulate some of the changes that will help our customers be Dynamic Businesses. The Microsoft Dynamic Business vision has people at its core. With this release, Microsoft and its network of partners who specialise in Dynamics NAV will deliver business solutions to empower every individual in the organisation to make a positive impact. This means designing applications that make people more proactive, deliver simplicity and agility, and support connected organisations. Microsoft believes the opportunity is greatest in the SMB segment.
After the keynote speech from Matthew Rogers, What’s new in NAV 2013, we listened to a series of Microsoft Support Engineers present the learning tracks – Technical, Business and Application. We were able to hear about some exciting new functionalities:
- Charts design. Based on the account schedule, users will be able to create charts and display them in your role centre (eg. cash flow, budget vs actual). Each user can have other charts and they design what they need to see when they open NAV
- NAV web access. Users will be able to open NAV with a web browser. No need to dial to a server anymore! Microsoft used all the latest technologies to build NAV in a web platform.
- Windows 8 apps. With the release of the new operating system, Microsoft opens the door to a whole new way of accessing NAV data. Imagine having your outstanding orders and notifications straight on your Windows desktop.
- NAV interacts with Kinect. Probably the most surprising part was to see NAV using Kinect. Kinect is a motion sen sing input for the Xbox 360 video game console and Windows PCs. Based around a webcam-style add-on peripheral, it enables users to control and interact without the need of a mouse or a keyboard. This technology is used by a NAV customer in a warehouse where their users have dirty hands and can’t use a keyboard or a mouse. Just by the move of their hands they can assembly a production order. This day was really beneficial for the EBS team. It gave us a good overview of what Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2013 can offer and how we’ll be able to use it to help our customers. It was also a good way to meet the Microsoft team and make contacts with the support people especially, in case we need any assistance down the track.
